Brennan’s interest in energy and water technologies started before his professional career even began. He studied a host of different energy subjects including both the theoretical science underpinning energy as well as its application to modern-day technologies and graduated from the University of Michigan with Master’s in Engineering in Energy Systems. While in school, Brennan worked for DTE Energy helping test smart meters as part of its efforts to replace over one million meters. For the next four years, Brennan worked as an Energy Manager at a major real estate developer and property manager. His responsibility was to create a program to contain and reduce the 15 million dollars in utility spending this company incurred annually. He successfully was able to achieve over a half a million dollars in annual savings through different procurement, education, and technology strategies. Brennan saw a myriad of different technologies proposed by different solutions providers. The solutions ENLIGHTEN now offers are based on those that stood out as consistently reducing ongoing energy and water costs, providing appealing financial returns and maintaining or improving the overall property appearance and function. After leaving his Energy Manager position, Brennan spent the next year as an independent consultant helping various clients evaluate, implement, and measure their energy and water efficiency projects. Realizing his passion for implementing energy and water efficient solutions and not seeing many companies doing so in the Metro Detroit area, Brennan decided to pull the trigger and start ENLIGHTEN!
